“UNFACiLiTATED” because...
There is no instruction at Dance Divine; nothing is taught (that is not to say that nothing is learned ;-). My role as your host is to provide the space, the music, the altar and the invitation for people to come together to deepen their practice and dance. However, I do hold a closing circle at the end so that we can share and connect and ‘close’ together.
“ECSTATiC” because...
(my personal opinions...)
Music and dance moves me physically and emotionally. Both help me to connect with myself; they help me to be more aware of my own feelings/content and at the same time, they help me to release and transform that content into conscious, authentic and grounded movement.
This restores my perspective and sense of ease and flow in life. It is also the most reliable way for me to transcend my ego mind and it never fails to reconnect me with a much more expanded sense of self, and with that vibrant, and very powerful, life-affirming feeling of “yes!”.
Dance has long been revered for its power to heal the body, mind and soul, strengthen the bonds of community, and facilitate communing. It allows us to discover deeper aspects of who we are as human beings. Ecstatic dance, also referred to as Trance Dance is a multi-layered experience that takes the dancer on an inner journey. It is a form of active meditation using music movement and the breath.
“FREE STYLE” because...
There is no choreography, no prescribed way of moving. No expectations. The invitation is to tune into ourselves and express ourselves authentically through movement by following our feet, our hearts, and surrendering to the music. This is a non-judgmental environment where we actively hold space for each other so that we may all enjoy the freedom and support to move and attune to what is true for us.
What kind of music is it?
The music sets are greatly inspired by the 5 Rhythms Wave and moves through the rhythms of “Flowing”, “Staccatto”, “Chaos”, “Lyrical” and “Stillness” (simply put: it starts slow, builds to a peak and then comes back down again). They last for 100 minutes and there is an emphasis on instrumental music, from a multitude of genres such as: Electronica, House, World, Ambient, Classical, Hip Hop, Meditative, etc.
